Baby Favor Bags

So it's time to throw your little one their first real birthday party. You've bought the cake, set up the decorations, planned the activities, and created a guest list. Now it's time to pick out the party favors.

It's vital to remember that the party bags will most likely be given to young children, and their contents therefore must child-safe and most importantly, fun. They should not include small parts that children could choke on, and they must not be made of material that could be harmful if put in a child's mouth. It's your decision if you want to hand out the favors before or after the party. Some people may wish for the children to play with the goodies throughout the party to keep them occupied, while others may feel they divert from the birthday celebration and should be opened at home.

But what should you put in the bags? Items such as play dough and erasable markers are always a hit, as is outdoor sidewalk chalk. Also, most children like animals, so animal crackers or toy zoo animals, whether stuffed or figurines, are fun. You can also buy items in bulk at grocery stores or even a dollar store in your area. These may include bubbles, silly putty, small coloring books, and stickers. Miniature juice boxes are also available, and may be perfect for the ride home from the party.

If your party has a color scheme or theme, it is often easy to find most of these items in a variety of colors and designs. Lastly, you may wish to have a few items for the older children at the party, as what is appropriate for a two year old is not the same as what a nine year old enjoys. Whatever you choose, make sure your party bags are fun for the children and that each bag has the same type and number of items, so as not to cause arguments between the young guests.
